Cherry Crock-Pot Dump Cake

It is absolutely amazing how easy this recipe is to make. And, it’s so very easy -- with just three ingredients -- that it’s almost impossible to imagine. My friend Pat introduced me to this while I painted a mural in Columbus. She told me it was so very delicious. I didn’t really believe it until I had my first bite.

Cherry Crockpot Dump Cake
Columbus, Ohio

Ingredients:

1 box yellow cake mix (15.25 ounces)
2 can cherry pie filling (each can 21 ounces)
1/2 cup butter, cut into pats

Additional options:

Substitute cherry filling with strawberry, blackberry, pineapple, or apple filling with a can of cranberry sauce

Top with walnuts, pecans, almonds, a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Lightly grease the interior of the crock-pot with butter or a non-stick cooking spray. It’s a dump cake, so dump the cherry pie filling evenly into the bottom of the crock-pot.

Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the cherries. Yep, sprinkle the cake mix but do not stir the ingredients.

Place the pats of butter evenly across the cake mix. If so inclined, this is when you could also sprinkle chopped nuts.

Cover the mixture and cook on high for 2 hours or on low for 4 hours. Like any cake, to check if it is done, insert a toothpick. If it comes out clean, it’s ready to serve.

Scoop the cake warm into serving dishes and top with ice cream or whipped cream if desired. (It should be desired.)
