You can enter Costa Rica on comfortable,
air-conditioned buses from both Panama and Nicaragua. I entered
from Nicaragua, and on an air conditioned bus, you don't realize how hot
it is on the coast. Believe me, you are thankful for every moment of air
conditioning when it's available.
Most people come to Costa Rica by air to San Jose. The capital is up in a higher elevation. It's refreshingly cool there. During my visit, it rained almost every day. I didn't mind it one bit. After a week in Nicaragua and some time at lower elevations, a few sprinkles weren't going to rain on my parade -- or murals.
