Activities on Belgium

1. Social Studies        Belgium has more castles per square mile than anywhere else. That wealth had to come from somewhere and many of those castles were built from the wealth of the Belgians in the Congo. There are many lessons that explore the Scramble for Africa including International School History, Sophia Institute for Teachers, and Edmethod.com.

2. Social Studies        If you spend any time in Belgium, you know that Flemish independence is a hot topic.     A lesson plan on the subject can be found on  Fiveable with further information on Bellacaledonia.org.uk.

3. Art        Belgium was a center of Art Nouveau and Art Deco in the early 1900's.  For Art Nouveau lessons, go to Crayola and back to the Incredible @rt Department.

4. History        Reminders of WWI and WWII are throughout Europe. Belgium is no exception. For those interested in the Holocaust, the Florida Center for Instructional Technology has a lesson on Bystanders.
